mock exam

In my mock exam, I used a photo of my model from my primary source photos to create a large oil painting on a canvas. I decided to do this to emulate the style of Miels to focus on the human part of architecture and the culture and societies found within, which I will develop as my project continues.

I chose this photo as I believe it captures great detail in the face, hair, neck and shoulders. This will allow me to perfect the techniques of using the palette knife while painting the tricky detail shown above. I aim to initially focus on the skin tone and highlights in the face to build layers to then implement more facial detail moving forward.

My aim over this time period was to improve my skills in painting portraits and I believe my exam outcome proves that compared with my first palette knife piece. The use of oils was also intriguing as it allowed me to easily layer my work in the style of Meils. I think I captured the facial detail from the photograph and the beauty of her eyes.
