Book 1

To start Book 1 I want to discover the features and culture in an 'urban jungle' as I am attracted to the idea of a concrete style of architecture and the cultures that live within it. By looking at features of the 'urban jungle' like the culture and the architecture, I feel more confident in discovering the answer to my question of how the culture can shape society. Furthermore, I would like to focus on a close example of an 'urban jungle' in my case, London is that perfect example. I aim to research and discover different areas in London and their culture as I can back my project with photos and experiences to document my experiences to further answer my question.

In terms of the way I want to display my work in an art form, I will look at a famous media representation of London and its 'urban jungle'. This representation will be the Netflix series 'Top Boy' which illustrates contrasting perspectives of the black community in London and how the area they live in affects their society and lifestyle. However, the series shows the areas of residency of the characters in the suburbs of London. By tieing the culture of communities and portraying the areas they live in Top Boy is a perfect starting point in answering my question.

I want to look at the different styles of buildings in an 'urban jungle' and I decided to research mostly residential buildings because of the strong link they have with societies and cultures. Most of the images I saw while collating them were more gloomy and sombre, potentially representing the people living in the areas in question. Furthermore, I aspire to concentrate my findings on a photographer to develop media experiments and an understanding of photographing concrete landscapes.

In addition to this, I wish to use these photos to inspire photos of my own in the future. Of course, I can't photograph all the buildings here but I will aim to research buildings in London and those seen in Top Boy to create an idea of culture moving forward.
